Sights and culture in Riga
Riga wears its history in its streets. The medieval Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and just north of it stands one of the largest and finest collections of Art Nouveau architecture anywhere in the world. Between them sit the Freedom Monument, the Central Market in its old Zeppelin hangars, and dozens of churches, museums and galleries.
This is also a city that remembers. The Corner House, the former KGB headquarters, is open to visitors, and the bohemian Miera iela quarter keeps Riga's creative side alive with studios, cafés and small venues. Below are our guides to the sights, the culture and the live events that fill the city's calendar.
